What a lovely guy. So helpful when my elderly friend's lock failed on her front door. He came out very quickly and replaced the lock, adding some tweaks to enable her to open the door with limited mobility to her hands. Would definitely recommend.

Repair/replace conservatory patio door lock mechanism. Turned up at the time he said. Very knowledgeable and good at his job. Gave a quote over the phone prior to attending thinking the complete lock mechanism would need replacing however once he attended he managed to repair the lock and reduced the quote accordingly. Top man cannot recommend highly enough.

My neighbour had an issue with her lock and was unable to get into her house. We called Janos, who came out immediately and resolved the problem quickly. He was professional, reassuring, and replaced the lock at a very reasonable price. I would have no hesitation in recommending his services. 10/10.

After getting locked out of our house late last night, we called at around 1am and received an incredibly fast response. Everything was explained clearly, there were no surprises. Excellent service.

What You Need to Know About Changing Door Locks

Whether you’ve lost your keys, moved into a new home or need to replace a worn lock, choosing the right solution isn’t always straightforward. These frequently asked questions cover door lock changes, lock replacement costs, security upgrades and when replacing a lock is necessary, helping you make an informed decision before booking a locksmith.

How much does it cost to change door locks?

The cost to change door locks depends on the lock type, security standard and work required. Replacing a euro cylinder is usually more straightforward than changing a complete mortice lock or high-security locking system. I provide a free quote before starting work, with no call-out fee, so you can decide whether to proceed.

Should I change the locks when moving into a new house?

I recommend changing locks on a new house because you may not know how many spare keys are still in circulation. Previous owners, tenants or contractors could have retained copies. I can replace existing door locks, including euro cylinders, mortice locks and night latches, giving you control over who has access to your new home.

Can you replace a uPVC door lock without changing the whole mechanism?

Yes. In many cases, a uPVC door lock replacement only requires changing the euro cylinder rather than the complete multipoint locking mechanism. I assess the existing lock to determine which parts need replacing. If the mechanism is faulty, I can explain the available repair or replacement options before carrying out any work.

Should I change my locks after losing my keys?

If your keys are lost or stolen, lock replacement after lost keys may be advisable, particularly if someone could identify the property they belong to. I can assess your existing locks and recommend suitable cylinder or lock changes to prevent old keys from operating the door. Replacing the entire locking mechanism is not always necessary.

Do I need to change my door locks after a burglary?

Following a burglary or attempted break-in, changing locks after a burglary may be necessary if keys have been stolen, locks damaged or security compromised. I can inspect the existing locks, replace damaged components and recommend suitable security upgrades. Where appropriate, I can fit anti-snap cylinders or British Standard locks to improve door security.

Can you upgrade my existing locks to anti-snap or British Standard locks?

Yes. I provide anti-snap cylinder replacements and high-security lock upgrades for compatible doors. Options include TS007 3-star euro cylinders and BS3621-rated mortice locks or night latches. I’ll assess your existing door hardware and recommend suitable replacements, taking into account any security requirements specified by your insurer.

Can landlords change locks between tenancies?

Yes, where the landlord is legally entitled to do so. Landlord lock changes are commonly arranged between tenancies when previous keys may remain in circulation. I provide door lock replacements, keyed-alike options and suitable security upgrades for rental properties. I can also assist letting agents with planned lock changes while minimising disruption.

Can you replace Yale locks, mortice locks and door lock barrels?

Yes. I provide Yale-type night latch replacements, mortice lock replacements and lock barrel changes for compatible residential and commercial doors. This includes euro, oval and rim cylinders, mortice deadlocks, sashlocks and traditional rim locks. I’ll check the existing lock type and dimensions before recommending a suitable replacement.

How long does it take a locksmith to change a door lock?

A straightforward door lock change can often be completed during a single visit, although the time required depends on the lock type, door condition and whether any adjustments are needed. More complicated mortice lock replacements or damaged locking systems may take longer. I explain the likely work and costs before proceeding.
