What a lovely guy. So helpful when my elderly friend's lock failed on her front door. He came out very quickly and replaced the lock, adding some tweaks to enable her to open the door with limited mobility to her hands. Would definitely recommend.

Repair/replace conservatory patio door lock mechanism. Turned up at the time he said. Very knowledgeable and good at his job. Gave a quote over the phone prior to attending thinking the complete lock mechanism would need replacing however once he attended he managed to repair the lock and reduced the quote accordingly. Top man cannot recommend highly enough.

My neighbour had an issue with her lock and was unable to get into her house. We called Janos, who came out immediately and resolved the problem quickly. He was professional, reassuring, and replaced the lock at a very reasonable price. I would have no hesitation in recommending his services. 10/10.

After getting locked out of our house late last night, we called at around 1am and received an incredibly fast response. Help arrived within 20 minutes and we were back inside in less than 10 minutes. The service was friendly, professional and reassuring from start to finish. Everything was explained clearly, there were no surprises. Excellent service.

Frequently Asked Questions About Door Repair Services

Locksmith questions
Why has my door suddenly become difficult to close or lock?

A door that suddenly becomes difficult to close or lock often has an alignment problem, worn hinges or a fault within its locking mechanism. Changes in temperature, regular use and movement in the door or frame can also contribute. I check how the door sits within its frame, how the locking points engage and whether any components are damaged before recommending the appropriate repair.

Can a dropped door be repaired without replacing it?

Yes. Many dropped doors can be corrected through hinge adjustments, realignment or replacement of worn components. This is particularly common with uPVC, composite and aluminium doors. If the door itself remains in good condition, adjusting its position and ensuring the locking mechanism engages correctly can often restore smooth operation without replacing the entire door.

Why do I have to lift my door handle so hard to lock it?

Excessive resistance when lifting a door handle commonly indicates that the locking points are not aligning correctly with the keeps in the frame. It can also result from worn components or a failing multipoint locking mechanism. Continuing to force the handle can damage the gearbox or other internal parts, so it’s worth having the problem investigated before the lock fails completely.

Is it better to repair a faulty door or replace the entire door?

Repairing an existing door is often more economical when the problem involves hinges, handles, locking mechanisms, alignment or other replaceable components. Complete replacement is generally more appropriate when the door or frame has suffered significant structural damage or deterioration. I assess the condition of the door and explain the available options before carrying out any work.

Can you repair a door that won’t open at all?

Yes. I can investigate doors that have become jammed shut due to failed locking mechanisms, broken handles, damaged gearboxes or alignment problems. Depending on the fault, it may be possible to release the door without unnecessary damage and then repair or replace the defective components. The method depends on the door construction and the condition of its locking system.

Why does my door keep catching on the frame?

Doors can catch on their frames because of dropped hinges, misalignment, movement within the frame or changes in the door material. Wooden doors can also swell when exposed to moisture. The appropriate repair depends on identifying where the door is catching and why, rather than simply removing material or forcing the door closed.

Can you repair commercial entrance doors that won’t close properly?

Yes. I repair operational faults affecting aluminium and steel entrance doors used in shops, offices and other commercial premises. Problems can involve worn pivots, damaged hinges, defective door closers, misalignment or faulty locking hardware. I’ll assess the door and its components to determine which repairs or adjustments are appropriate. Fire-rated doors require particular care to preserve their certified performance.

Can door repairs improve security as well as operation?

Absolutely. A door that doesn’t close or align properly can prevent its locking points from engaging as intended. Correcting alignment problems, repairing damaged locking mechanisms and replacing defective hardware can improve both the operation and security of the door. Where appropriate, I can also advise on suitable lock upgrades that provide additional protection.

How can I prevent my door from developing the same problem again?

Regularly checking that your door closes smoothly, keeping moving components clean and addressing stiff handles or unusual resistance early can help prevent further problems. Avoid forcing a door that has become difficult to lock, as this can place additional strain on its mechanism. The correct maintenance depends on the door type and hardware, and I can explain any relevant adjustments or care following a repair.
